 What's New for the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica?

Chrysler invented the minivan in 1983, and although things were not always good for them, they are back to change decades of history. Their latest offering, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica arrived to reclaim the automaker's minivan throne - and with it 2017 10Best award. The new Pacifica replaces the discontinued Town & Country minivan, and word on the streets is that it will, in time, also take the Dodge Grand Caravan's place. Make no mistake: the Chrysler Pacifica is entirely new and has nothing in common with the crossover wagon/SUV that went with the same name in the mid-2000s. The Pacifica is availed in five trim levels: the LX, the Touring, the Touring-L, the Touring-L Plus, and the Limited. A plug-in hybrid is expected later in the year. It is built on a new light-yet-sturdy platform and wrapped with a sleek, fresh body. The elegant exterior design assures Pacifica's place away from the regular "box-bore" minivans. Things get even better when you step inside. The cabin us lined with soft touch high-quality materials and brims with cool new features including a built-in vacuum cleaner, a dual-screen rear entertainment system, an eight-way power driver seat, a 5-inch center touchscreen display, three-zone climate control, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, and a six-speaker sound system.

All versions of the new Chrysler Pacifica receive a 3.6-liter V6 that cranks out 287 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The engine is complemented by a nine-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels. Chrysler says that it will add a power-saving automatic engine stop-start functionality midway through the year. EPA estimates that it will return 22 mpg combined (18 city/28 highway), an above average figure for its class. The Pacifica Hybrid will benefit from an exclusive version of the same V6 engine linked to two hybrid motor/generators enabled by a 16 kWh floor-mounted battery pack. Chrysler projects that the hybrid will pump out 260 hp through a specialized continuously variable transmission. The hybrid will cover up to 30 miles solely on electric power then switch to gas/electric operation for an 80 MPGe efficiency. Chrysler claims that a completely depleted battery pack will charge take only two hours to recharge on a 240-volt charger fully. The regular Pacifica tows up to 3,600 pounds when properly equipped. For crisp responses, the new Pacifica gets a rear trailing-arm suspension, a new front strut, an electric power steering. The Pacifica is not the largest minivan in the segment, but it utilizes the available space better than its rivals. There are several storage chambers in the cabin and plenty of front-row and second-row legroom and headroom. The third row offers enough room even for adults, making the Pacifica the only minivan with an eight people capacity. The 2017 Pacifica is IIHS' Top Safety Pick+. It also boasts of a five-star overall rating from federal testers.
