 What's New for the 2017 Dodge Challenger?

Around since the 1950s, the Dodge Challenger has enjoyed four production cycles as a performance-oriented pony car. Now in its 2017 model year, the Challenger now comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to enable you to use your smartphone to execute infotainment functions. It is also the first year that features an all-wheel drivetrain option; typically, the Challenger is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. The full-size two-door coupe is split into nine variants: SXT, SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Shaker, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Plus Shaker, 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat. The SXT Plus is the only trim with an all-wheel-drive version.

The standard engine on the 2017 Challenger is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which produces 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque. As you go up in trim, you are more likely to get the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 or 6.4-liter HEMI V8 instead; they generate 375 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque and 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, respectively. The SRT Hellcat, which functions as the top-level model, is the only one with the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8, which produces 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic transmission is paired with the engine. Depending on configuration and trim, the 2017 Challenger can provide up to 19 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Inside the vehicle are 110.1 cubic feet of passenger volume, in addition to 16.2 cubic feet of trunk space. The front row includes a driver's seat that has 6-way power adjustability and 4-way power lumbar support. Upper-level trims are more likely to replace the cloth seat trim with leather, or have front-seating heating and cooling capabilities. For infotainment, the 2017 Challenger presents the Uconnect multimedia system, which includes a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 5-inch touchscreen. There's also a media interface that consists of a USB port for charging your mobile device, an audio jack for an external music source, and a slot for inserting a flash memory card. More comfort and convenience comes from standard features such as dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 7-inch instrument cluster display, steering wheel-mounted controls, and remote keyless entry. Upper-level additions or enhancements include additional speakers, navigation capability, a larger infotainment touchscreen, HD Radio, a garage door opener, remote vehicle start, voice-activated Uconnect Access for integrating main vehicle functions, and a one-year subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio. Crash safety is provided by dual front impact airbags, dual front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and dual side curtain airbags. Other standard safety features on the new Challenger traction control, electronic vehicle stability, anti-lock disc brakes, hill start assist, and speed control. A rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, and forward collision warning, among other advanced safety features, are added or available on the upper-level trims.
