2017 Jeep Cherokee vs 2017 Toyota RAV4

Serving Quitman, Thomasville, and Albany, GA

Available in eight versatile models, the 2017 Jeep Cherokee is a robust SUV that proudly wears the Trail Rated badge. The 2017 Toyota RAV4 is an SUV that's also known for its durable character. Offering the Active Drive and Selec-Terrain Traction Management technology, the Cherokee boasts much better off-road attributes than the RAV4. The 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system also makes this Jeep better in the digital technology category.

Off-Road Performance

Equipped with the Active Drive I 4x4 system, the Jeep Cherokee can confidently roll on any terrain. The rear axle can be engaged or disengaged according to real-time driving conditions. Additional support is provided by the Brake Lock Differential that creates instant adjustments in torque. Featuring the 4WD Low Mode, the Active Drive II 4x4 system gives you extra confidence for embarking on off-road adventures. You may also turn on the Neutral Mode to maintain firm control of a connected trailer on rough surfaces. If you plan on navigating rocky terrains, opt for the Trailhawk edition that comes with the Active Drive Lock technology. All of the 4x4 drive systems in the Cherokee are paired with the Selec-Terrain Traction Management System, which includes the Snow Mode and Sand/Mud Mode. Although it's available with the Electronic On-Demand AWD with intelligence (AWD-i) system or Dynamic Torque-Control AWD, the Toyota RAV4 simply doesn't match the off-road capabilities of the Cherokee. This robust Jeep also has skid plates that protect the fuel tank and suspension system from abrasive damage.

Powertain

Running on the MultiAir 2 technology, the 2.4 L Tigershark I-4 engine in the Jeep Cherokee generates slightly more than 180 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. This four-cylinder engine can create a 56:1 crawl ratio that's optimized for navigating steep terrains at slow speeds. The 3.2 L Pentastar V6 engine produces just above 270 hp and almost 240 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines are synced with an automatic transmission system that has nine gear speeds. Standard in the Toyota RAV4, a 2.5 L I-4 engine delivers only up to 176 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with an electronically controlled automatic transmission system that has six gear ratios. Coupled with a continuously variable transmission system, the vehicle's hybrid powertrain has a net output of 176 hp.

Technology

When you enter the Jeep Cherokee, you should turn on the 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system that has a GPS navigation suite. Select models come with a five-year subscription to SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link. Although it's available with GPS navigation and live HD Radio traffic updates, the Toyota RAV4's Entune multimedia system comes with a relatively small 7.0-inch monitor. Some other notable connectivity features in the Cherokee include wireless Bluetooth, SD card slot, USB port and auxiliary jack. This Jeep is available with the nine-speaker Alpine sound system, which includes a 12-channel digital amplifier. Even though it has 11 speakers, the RAV4's JBL GreenEdge audio system doesn't match the acoustic quality that's produced by the Alpine sound system. Both SUVs are connected to SiriusXM Satellite Radio, HD Radio and AM/FM radio channels.
