2017 Dodge Challenger vs 2017 Ford Mustang

Serving Quitman, Thomasville, and Albany, GA

Dodge Challengers came to the market in the late 1960s ready to beat the Ford Mustang. Ever since, there has been a rivalry between the two muscle cars. The 2017 editions continue this tradition. You may wonder how the two match up. As you will learn in this review, the Challenger just keeps raising the bar on personalization, spaciousness, and performance power. If you drive the 2017 Dodge Challenger, you may find even more ways it beats the Mustang than we can name here.

Performance

The first and biggest question is: can the Challenger match the Mustang for speed and competitiveness? A look at the numbers says that the answer is yes. The Mustang has a 300 horsepower engine while the Challenger has a 305-horsepower standard V6. Shoppers can pay more for a 310-horsepower Mustang, although it seems smarter to opt for the Challenger’s first V8 with 400 horsepower and 375 lb.-ft. of torque. If you keep stepping up, the Ford GT has a 435-horsepower engine that’s rated for 410 lb.-ft. of torque. Yet that is easily challenged by the Challenger SRT 485-horsepower engine with 475 lb.-ft. of torque. Holding the top spot, the Challenger SRT Hellcat races around with 707 horses under the hood. It also enjoys the solid kick of 650 lb.-ft. of torque.

Spaciousness

No other muscle car comes close to the practicality of the 2017 Challenger. That’s because, while it may look just as racy as its rivals, it is bigger in all of the ways that count. First, it has a much bigger backseat than the Ford Mustang. If you have friends, the Challenger is definitely the car where they will be comfortable on the second row. Even the front seat is more hospitable, offering better wiggle room for both the rider and the driver. Last but not least, there’s the matter of trunk space. While the Mustang makes do with 12 cu.ft., the Challenger has a real trunk. It measures 16 cu.ft., making it on par with a midsized sedan. Unless you can afford a second car just for fun, the Challenger is the car you will want for everyday use and for long distance travel.

Personalized Good Looks

Challengers are more customizable than any other sports car, including the Ford Mustang. As such, you will find more exterior colors and more trim levels on the menu. With ten editions as well as special packages, Dodge lets you choose from different types of grilles, hoods, fenders, and spoilers. Stripes and graphics add even more individualization to the exterior. Inside there are a range of fabrics as well as a variety of leathers. While the Mustang offers a handful of interior combinations, the Challenger mixes it up with 14 color schemes. Unique stitching and other fine touches add to the car’s racy demeanor. Some shoppers will want the red seatbelts. Others may prefer the leather seats with Alcantara suede-like inserts. In our showroom, you can learn how many different ways you can make the Dodge Challenger truly your own.
